Climate Control

matecover_cropped.jpg
Having a wine cellar is the best way to replicate the underground storage conditions used in wineries.  We carry a wide variety of climate control systems from which we will select the model that meets your specific needs.  The design and size are determined by the location of the unit and shape and cubic footage of the storage area.

To ensure that your climate control system operates efficiently, the wine cellar should be constructed with insulation and a vapor barrier.  To read more about our recommended wine room specifications, click here.

5 Things You Need to Know About Storing Wine
  • Wine is constantly growing, never static.  The best wines are aged slowly and stored properly in a cool dark damp area, such as a wine cellar.
  • When storing wine, it's important that the area is vibration free.  Movement can stir up sediment and loosen the cork.
  • The optimum temperature for storing wine is a consistent 50-60 degrees Fahrenheit.  Extreme fluctuations in temperature can cause premature aging or deposits.
  • Humidity must be between 50-70%.  If too dry, the cork will shrink and moisture will seep into thebottle.  This is call "ullage."  Storing bottles horizontally also ensures that the cork stays moistened.
  • UV light can break down the protiens in the wine.  It's best to store wine in the dark.
